Step 1: Register Your PSP
Plug the USB cable into your PSP and PS3. On your PSP go to Settings and set it to USB mode. On your PS3 go into Settings, and then into Remote Play settings. Click Register Device. When the registration is complete it will tell you which connection to use for your network option on the PSP. You can check to make sure your PSP is registered by looking at the Registered Device List under the Remote Play settings.
The default connection after the PSP is registered should be PLAYSTATION(R)3.
Step 2: Remote Start Option
You now have the option to turn on Remote Start. Remote start allows you to turn on and off your PS3 via your PSP. Under the Remote Play settings, choose Remote Start. Choose ON if you wish to use Remote Start. You then have an option to enable Remote Start via the internet. Check this box, if you wish.
Step 3: Starting Remote Play On The PS3
Go to Network settings. Choose Remote Play. After choosing it, a dialog box will pop up telling you to now connect the PSP via Remote Play. It will also tell you how to sign in if you are connecting the PSP using the Remote Play Internet option.
The dialog box will show you which user ID to use to log in. It is the same as your PSN ID.
Step 4: Starting Remote Play On The PSP
Go to your Network settings on your PSP. Select Remote Play. It will then ask if you wish to connect through the internet or private network. If you are at home choose private network. Choose internet if you are away from the PS3 and are connecting to the internet from a separate network. You will then be prompted to choose a connection. Pick the connection with the same name given in Step 1.
Step 5: Using The XMB On Your PSP
Remote Play works by encoding a live video and audio stream of the output image on a PS3, then delivering it over a wireless network connection to the PSP. Actions performed on the PSP such as the pressing of buttons are uploaded back to the PS3 over the same connection. You will now see the XMB screen from your PS3 on the PSP screen. All functions are the same, yet some options cannot be used.
Step 6: Download Using Your PSP
Download and install demos remotely from your PSP from the Playstation Store so they are ready to play when you arrive back home. You can add funds to your wallet and purchase full games and downloadable content as well. But not all games support Remote Play. Check the back of the box and look for the box that says Remote Play Supported.
The PS3 allows additional Flash-enabled viewing web browsing that the normal PSP web browser doesn't support.
