This guide will explain step-by-step how to convert Flash Video (FLV) files into AVI files. Most likely you will encounter FLV files when downloading Youtube videos (as shown in this guide: http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-save-youtube-videos), or if you used Adobe Flash to create a Flash animation.
Step 1: Download and Install FormatFactory
FormatFactory is an incredibly simple and useful software, which can handle the conversion of most types of video (including FLV and AVI), audio, and even pictures. You can download it here: http://www.brothersoft.com/download-formatfactory-98431.html.
Step 2: Start FormatFactory
After installation, open FormatFactory. Here, you'll see the main window interface. You should see to the left, there are a column of buttons, labeled "All to xx", where xx is a video format.
Step 3: Add The Tasks
Before you begin the conversion, you need to create a new task. To do this, simply click 'All to AVI'. A window will pop-up. Next, click Add Files. Select the FLV files you wish to convert and select OK. If you want to convert a batch of files located in the same folder, you can simply select 'Add Folder'. You can select 'Output Setting' to adjust the desired quality.
 | Alternatively, you can drag and drop the FLV files you want to convert into the main window. A window will pop-up. Select 'All to AVI'. |
Step 4: Begin The Conversion
When you're happy with the tasks, press 'Start' in the toolbar to begin the conversion. Each file should take about 5-20 minutes, depending on the length of the video, and the desired quality.
 | You can change the destination directory of the converted file by going to Task->Option. Here, you can change the output directory, and set the program to shut down the computer or open the folder when complete. You can also alter the notification sounds. |
