Step 1: Get Prepared
Inflate your balloon to the size desired. Tear the newspaper into two inch strips, and mix papier mache to general instructions. Take the plastic lid and punch holes into it so you can hang it. Then thread string through it and tape the lid to the balloon. Now place the balloon into the bowl for stability.
Step 2: Dip and Apply
Take your newspaper pieces and dip them in the papier mache mixture, one at a time and gently wipe off the excess. Add them to the balloon in an even layer, making sure you go all the way around. Now, allow this to dry overnight.
Step 3: Dip and Apply Again
Repeat steps the above until you have two good layers of mix all over the balloon. Allow to dry until it is all dry to the touch. Then we can move on!
Step 4: Cut and Fill
Cut a small square near the top of the pinata and touch the inside carefully to make sure it's dry! Then fill with individually wrapped candies. Now take the square piece of newspaper and tape it over the hole.
Step 5: Decorate and Hang
Paint or cover your pinata in colourful squares of paper. Add glitter, flowers, feathers - whatever you want because the options are endless. You could make this into a bear, a pig, a fish, whatever you want! Be creative! And then once it's dry, hang and enjoy!
