It's that time of year again. The leaves have begun to turn, piling up on front lawns and sidewalks. Family begins to gather as a turkey no longer gobbles, but sits adorned with gravy, stuffing and mashed potatoes on your dinning room table. Yes, Christmas time is here and among everything else, you can't forget to send out those Christmas cards. This year why not make your own Christmas cards?
Step 1: Choosing The Type Of Christmas Card
What type of Christmas card is it that you'll be sending out this year? There are many options when it comes to Christmas cards. A Christmas card can be plain with simple, elegant decorating on the front and a small poem picked up from an online source inside. Another fun option that is gaining popularity are photo cards. For the sake of timeliness we'll look at the photo cards in this article.
Step 2: Pick The Right Photo
You've decided to send out a photo card. Now you'll have to pick the right picture. Many people choose to send out photos taken from a summer vacation. But if you'd like to stick with the holiday theme, why not take a picture on thanksgiving day, when your family is already dressed in their Sunday's best anyway?
Step 3: Formatting Your Photo
The hard part is done, you've found the perfect picture to send out to all of your family and friends. Now its time to format your picture. You need to decide what size of picture you want and if you want to decorate it. Perhaps a nice Christmasy border? The easiest choice is a 4x6 photo with a simple Christmas border that goes along with the theme and colors of your card.
Step 4: Choosing The Right Stationary
It is important that the paper you use to make your cards is sturdy. A flimsy piece of colored computer paper will not work. The paper must be thick enough to stand up on its on when creased. It is also important to choose the right color of paper. For instance a snowy themed card will probably look best on blue stationary.
Step 5: Putting It All Together
You've got the card paper, you have the pictures, you have your decorations, now it's time to put it all together. Decorating the front of the card can be as simple as the photo itself with a border already printed out on the photo, or a plain photo with your own border made on the surrounding card with stencils, stickers or any other decorations you might like to add. You can also cut out a white piece of paper for the inside writing.
Step 6: Write And Send
You can write unique cards for each person you're sending one out to, or you can find a nice holiday greeting to copy into every card. This can be handwritten or for time saving purposes printed off on the computer. Now, get some envelopes, address the cards, and of course, don't forget the stamp!
