MAKES ABOUT 5 X 450G JARS. This is very quick and easy to make. You’ll wonder why you never made your own mincemeat before!

450g cooking apples, cored and diced

225g vegetarian suet

280g soft brown sugar

1kg mixed dried fruit: raisins, sultanas and currants

110g glacé cherries, halved

½ teaspoon mixed spice

½ teaspoon cinnamon

½ teaspoon grated nutmeg

Juice and zest of 1 lemon

5 tablespoons brandy

Step 1:
Stew the apples on a low heat until tender. Leave to cool.
Step 2:
Meanwhile, mix all the other ingredients together in a big bowl, making sure everything is well-coated in the brandy.
Step 3:
When the apples are cool, mix them into the other ingredients, making sure everything is thoroughly combined.
Step 4:
Pack into prepared jars and seal well.
