You just got an MP3 player, and now, you don't know what to do
with it. Don't worry. All you need is some software and
some know-how, and you'll be listening to music in no time.
1. Software
You can't get music onto your MP3 player without the right
software. Fortunately, most MP3 players come with a CD or DVD
containing the appropriate software right in the box. If your
MP3 player comes with software, install it according to the
directions. If not, then search for downloadable software
online, using the brand name and model of your MP3 player and the
words "music management software." If you get multiple
results, pick the one that looks simplest to you. If you
can't find compatible software online, call your MP3 player's
manufacturer and ask for tech support.
2. Format
It's an MP3 player, so you have to make sure your music is in the
MP3 format. Most music you download from the Internet is
probably already in the MP3 format, but if you're getting your
music from CDs, you'll have to convert it to the MP3 format.
Just use your music management software to pull music off your CD
(also known as "ripping") and convert it to MP3. Then, you
can transfer it onto your player.
3. Connect
Connect your MP3 player to your computer using the cable that
came with it, more than likely a USB cable, which will fit into the
USB port on your Mac or PC.
4. Transfer
Use your music management software to transfer music from your
computer to your MP3 player, typically by dragging and dropping
songs or groups of songs to an icon representing the
player.
And that's it! Once the transfer is complete, disconnect your
MP3 player and enjoy your music!
