Thanks to Amy Winehouse the beehive hairstyle no longer belongs in the sixties. Big hair is back, and here's how it's done...
Step 1: Supplies you will need
To put your hair in a beehive like Amy Winehouse you will need a little patience and a few hairstyling tools. Some of the supplies you will need consist of some jumbo hair rollers, a bottle of strong hairspray, a flat iron, bobby pins, a rattail comb, and a root lifting hair product.
Step 2: Blow dry hair
You will want to start with wet clean hair. Be sure to apply the root lifting hair product to the hair especially the roots. Once the product has been applied, you will need to turn your head upside down and blow dry your hair from root to tip. Do not worry about hair getting completely straight. It can be a little frizzy. Once, hair is completely dry, flip your head upright.
Step 3: Flat Iron Areas
Now you will need to section out the areas that you want hanging down as fringe with the rattail comb. Once you have these sectioned out you will need to flat iron them as straight as possible and put the large rollers in the area of the crown that is not being straightened.
Step 4: Mohawk the left over hair.
At this point you will need to take the left over hair which is in the rollers remove the rollers and begin to rat it and tease it with your rattail comb. You will basically be taking strips of hair and tangling it in the wrong direction to tease it. If successful, this hair should look extremely tangled and messy with lots of volume.
Step 5: Bobby pin beehive
Take a small portion of hair from the front of the hive and smooth it over the top of the ratter hair and bobby pin it back to the middle of where you want the beehive to be. Now take hair from the bottom or the ratted hair and swoop it up and bobby pin it the other pinned section. Be sure to leave some hair hanging on the nape of the neck.
Step 6: Smooth out the mess
With the left over hair that you have not pinned you will want to smooth it over the hived hair using your fingers only. Use more bobby pins as necessary to create the amount of volume that you wish to achieve and in no time you will be sporting the style of Amy Winehouse.
