What Is Pilates?
Pilates is a Mind & Body exercise method developed in the 1900s by Joseph Pilates. It focuses on lengthening and strengthening muscles and helps you to tone up as well as improving posture and flexibility.
Who Can Do Pilates?
Pilates is suitable for a wide range of people of almost any age but if you have any doubts about your suitability consult your doctor, a physiotherapist or an experienced Pilates instructor.
What Are The Different Types of Pilates?
There are two kinds, Matwork and Apparatus based Pilates. Matwork classes are more common, and all our VideoJug Pilates films feature matwork exercises. Apparatus based Pilates classes require specialist machines and equipment and are designed primarily for those recovering from injury or suffering from severe osteoporosis.
How Do I Get Started?
You’ll find Pilates classes at most health clubs and gyms. Alternatively you could look for a specialist Pilates centre in your local area by searching online. If you’d like to start by practising at home with our free Pilates films read How To Do Pilates At Home which will fill you in on Pilates breathing techniques, warm up exercises and correct body positioning.
