What should I do if I get into an auto accident?
If you get into an auto accident, the first thing to consider is your safety. If you're on the freeway or a busy road, don't get out of the car until it's completely safe to do so. You don't want to take a bad situation and make it much, much worse. Secondly, you want to exchange as much information as you can with the person you've been involved in the accident with. This is no time to be a nice guy. You want to make sure you get this person's insurance information, their driver's license information, their address if possible, as much information as you can to make sure you are able to find that person if there becomes an issue with the insurance companies down the road. Lastly is to contact your insurance agent as soon as possible. You don't want a gap in space there. You want them to know exactly at what date and what time the damage occured, so they can make sure that they address it correctly. It's also very important to contact the police, especially if the accident causes anybody any bodily harm. It's a very good idea to keep a digital camera with you in the car at all times. Therefore you can record any particulars at the scene, maybe the road conditions, the weather conditions at the time of the accident, and exactly the way the two vehicles ended up after the accident, before they are towed away or driven away from the scene.
