What are "car insurance discounts"?
James Bell (Publisher, Auto Reviewer) gives expert video advice on: What is "auto insurance"?; What is "gap insurance"?; What is a "deductible"? and more...
Car insurance discounts are discounts, or incentives, provided by the vehicle insurer that benefit you for maintaining certain levels of behavior. Multiple vehicles insured all at one location can reduce your costs, having a good driving record, or being a student. A few typical car insurance discounts you should ask your insurer about with regards to your policy would be a non-smoker discount, multiple car discount, or possibly a low-mileage discount. If your vehicle is only used for commuting a very short distance, based upon the lack of exposure it has to the roads, you might be able to negotiate a discount on that as well. And, some discounts are actually motivated by the insurer so you're looking at discounts for anti-locking brake systems, passive restraint systems, or airbag systems. And, then, of course, more obviously, anti-theft systems – if the insurer believes that the vehicle is going to be harder to steal, then, therefore, it is less of a risk and they can pass those savings on to you.
