What are the disadvantages of bleaching?

Josephine Wackett (Skincare specialist - Principal, Steiner Beauty Training) gives expert video advice on: What are the advantages of bleaching?; What are the disadvantages of bleaching? and more...

Bleaching uses a peroxide type product which can be quite a strong treatment on very sensitive skin. It must be used with great care on the face. It can't be overused on the arms or legs because the skin can very quickly have a bad reaction to it. It's a strong alkali. It does affect the surface of the skin. In the same way, if someone's having the hair on their head bleached they have to be very careful, and the hairdresser has to be very aware of any problems which might occur. Then, on the face, or on the arms or on the legs, body hair using bleach must be done with great care and if it's going to be a strong bleach it should be used by a professional and not at home.
