A dislocation means the joint, for example the shoulder joint that I'm holding, is totally disrupted. In the case of a <a href="http://www.videojug.com/expertanswer/shoulder-and-upper-arm-injuries-2/what-is-the-treatment-for-a-dislocated-shoulder">dislocated shoulder</a>, the humerus, or the shoulder bone is completely out of the socket - there is no continuity of the joint.
