What is a "monopod", and why would I use one with my camcorder?
Tim Smith (Camcorder Training Specialist) gives expert video advice on: How do I choose a tripod for my camcorder?; How do I choose a monopod for my camcorder? and more...
One of your accessory choices is going to be a monopod. Monopods are really small, lightweight, and they're really just kind of like a pogo stick with a camera mounted on the top of it. They really come in handy, in terms of keeping a camera steady, when it's something you have to hold for a long time. Maybe not as practical, in terms of shooting, as a tripod would be, but a monopod is better than nothing in many circumstances. Remember that even a lightweight camera tends to feel heavier and heavier if you have to keep holding it for longer and longer periods of time. A monopod really can save the day when it comes to getting a nice, steady shot.
