Sugar is especially dangerous when you look at the cancer picture because not only can it suppress our immune system so that we cannot be vigilant against cancer cells, but in addition, sugar is cancer's favorite food. Malignant cells; cancerous cells, uptake sugar at a rate of probably 5 times the rate that healthy cells take up sugar, we call them obligate sugar metabolizers. That's why PET scans work so well. These are scans that tell us where cancer is lurking in the body and how we administer that is by giving the patient some sugar water tagged with a radioactive isotope that will make the sugar make a b-line through the cancer and then the cells will light up, so we can either have a lot of PET scans or eat a lot of sugar if we want to get the cancer growing.
