What do I do if I see someone having a complex partial seizure?
Charles Ribak, Ph.D. (Professor of Anatomy and Neurobiology, UC Irvine School of Medicine) gives expert video advice on: What triggers a complex partial seizure?; What are the dangers of complex partial seizures?; What do I do if I see someone having a complex partial seizure? and more...
If you see someone having a complex partial seizure they will start displaying these automatisms initially. I think it's at this point that you should realize a seizure is about; a generalized seizure may come very quickly on the heels of these automatisms. If that's the case, and usually it is, then you should clear the area. Try and make the person as comfortable as possible. If you have a pillow, put it under the head, and basically, clear the area. Do the things that you did for a person who had a generalized seizure.
