What is the procedure for getting dental veneers?

Ronald Rosenblatt, DDS (General and Cosmetic Dentistry) gives expert video advice on: Is the preparation for a dental veneer painful?; What are the advantages and disadvantages of dental veneers?; How do I care for my dental veneers? and more...

You've decided you are not happy with your smile and you think that dental veneers are the solution for you. So you go to the dentist and you consult with him as to what can be accomplished with these dental veneers. You may want to change the size, the shape, or the color of your teeth. You may want to rid yourself of spaces between your teeth. You and the dentist will go over the shape that you feel and he feels would look best in your mouth. He will then create a mock up in wax of what you want them to look like. Once this is produced the dentist will prepare your teeth by trimming off some of the enamel. Then, he'll take an impression of that. And then when he is finished with that he will make temporaries for you in the shape of the mock up that the two of you have decided is best for you. Very often what you feel is a very nice look on the model does not look the way you intended in your mouth. So you'll come back two days later and make some modifications so that the smile you want is the one you are going to get.
