How can comparison of glass fractures help in CSI?

Richard Saferstein (Former Chief Forensic Scientist) gives expert video advice on: How is the analysis of glass used in CSI?; What are the different kinds of glass studied in CSI?; How can comparison of glass fragments help in CSI? and more...

Glass fractures can be studied from the point of the view of making a determination as to the direction of impact. For example, if a bullet travels through a glass window, sometimes it is important to try to understand from what direction that bullet came. Was it fired within the home, for example, or was it outside the home? That can be very critical in reconstructing the crime scene and evaluating glass fractures will typically allow forensic analyst to make those sort of determinations.
