Mass is the amount of matter in a substance. I can have a very large styrofoam ball, and I can have a bowling ball. The bowling ball has much more mass than a styrofoam ball and more mass actually means it has more energy. If you want to prove that, you just lay down on the floor and I'll hold the bowling ball over your stomach and drop it. If you like that, thats okay, otherwise I'll hold the styrofoam ball over your stomach and drop it. Having less mass, the styrofoam ball is going to have less energy, and you won't be bothered by the styrofoam ball, but I guarantee the bowling ball is going to bother you.
