What is an "obituary"?
Dan Redmond (Cemetery and Funeral Inspector, California Department of Consumer Affairs ) gives expert video advice on: What are the basic considerations when planning a funeral?; Do I need to use a funeral home to have a funeral?; What are the customary elements of a funeral? and more...
An obituary is a chronology of a person's life and an announcement of their death. It also lists whether they had any surviving relatives, what their cause of death may have been and what they did for a living. Obituaries are normally printed in a newspaper. However, the funeral establishment can also help you with a memorial folder, which also gives the same basic information as an obituary, but is a little more personal and private, and given to the people that actually attend the funeral.
