How should I pick my rock climbing shoes?

Daniel Wade (Rock Climbing Manager) gives expert video advice on: How should I pick my rock climbing shoes?

Again, rock climbing shoes are very specific to the type of climbing that you will be doing. Most climbers will have multiple shoes in their arsenal. There are lace up shoes, there are Velcro shoes, there are slippers, and depending on how stiff the shoe is, is usually going to be the greatest indication of what kind of climbing it is used for. Flexible shoes are used for sport climbing and for bouldering, stiffer shoes are used for traditional and crack climbing. If you want to use your shoes in the mountains you might size them up for wearing a sock. If you're using them at the local crag you're probably going to want them to be as tight as possible for performance. It's mostly as in general about power to the toe box. Some shoes are curved that way specifically, some aren't. Personally I have a stiff, lace up, flat-lasted shoe for crack climbing and traditional climbing, and then I have a little bit more aggressive Velcro shoe that's a little bit tighter-fitting, which is used for bouldering and some sport climbing, gym climbing.
