Is it safe to sell an old cell phone or PDA, or will that make me vulnerable to identity theft?
I would never resell a PDA or cellular phone unless you've gone through the proper measures to delete any and all traces of any of your proprietary data on that phone. Most consumers would not know how to do that. I would take that phone to the retailer or even to someone who understands the inner workings of that phone, making sure that all information is deleted before you sell it or give it away. There are individuals, identity theives, out there trolling the Internet looking on eBay, looking for old cellular phones, old computers, old laptops, specifically for the data so that they can commit identity theft. There are those people out there that don't realize that when they try to sell a phone or a computer or a laptop on eBay that if they haven't reformatted that hard drive and extracted all that data, that there really are people out there looking for those hardware devices to buy them at a small fee to make thousands and thousands of dollars in identity theft.
