What does Fair Trade mean for artisans?

One of the things that Fair Trade means for artisans is that they are able to do something that they enjoy doing, and that they are good at. By doing that, they are able to provide for their family, and are able to be a staple member of their community. It doesn't mean, as it often does for people in villages around the world where poverty leads to having to go to cities where they have to be away from their homes, that they have to work in doing something that is unfamiliar to them, instead they are able to function in the places where they are skilled and that they enjoy doing. And, of course, they are able to make a living by doing that.
