During an earthquake you want to get under something that's large enough to provide you shelter from things that may be falling in the room. For example, a regular table, a desk or a coffee table. Any piece of furniture large enough for you to get under, cover yourself and hold on to it so that when it starts to move during an earthquake, you move with it.
