What is the 'UFC' compared to the IFL?
The 'UFC' is fighting in a cage. They have three five minute rounds for a normal fight, and for a title fight , five five minute rounds. There are elbows allowed on the ground, and that is pretty much the only difference with the IFL. The IFL is in a ring instead of a cage. It's got four minute rounds instead of five minute rounds, and we took the elbows out. We think that an elbow is a cheap way of winning. I don't really mean a cheap way, but I can count on one hand how many knockouts there've been in the whole history of mixed martial arts with an elbow. Most of the time they stop a fight because of the elbow because it clips somebody, and the elbow hits anywhere on the face and it cuts the opponent. If you've been fighting for two and a half rounds in a three round fight and you've been really beating your opponent up for the entire fight, and then at the end of the fight the guy suddenly hit you with an elbow and he clips you, and if you lose the fight, we don't think it's fair. That's why we took the elbows out. Also, excessive blood gushing on his face. We're trying to build it up as a sport. A lot of people still see it as two animals fighting, but they don't realize that a lot of technique goes behind it. But, with blood, you have got to understand that your heart rate is up 180, 200 beats per minute. It goes fast, and even if you have got a little tiny cut, blood will gush out. Most of the time they wipe it up and you don't see anything, but the people freak out when they see blood. I would also say of that the IFL has a team foreman. It's not a concept anymore, but it's a foreman because it's proven that it works. You have five different fighters on five different weight classes, and they're on a team. A team from a coach that used to be a fighter or is still a fighter, who's a famous guy who used to fight, or still is a fighter. Those teams compete against each other. Whoever wins three out of five fights is going to advance to the next round. Of course, if they win four out of five, too.
