Proper technique for a second baseman to turn a double play in baseball is, number one, to get to the bag under control. Then give the shortstop, third baseman or pitcher if you will, a good target - which is why he needs to get to the bag in time. And then lastly he has to be able to get the ball in a way that he can transfer the ball, touch the base and throw the ball all without getting taken out by the runner coming in. So, there's many ways to do that, but basically you can use the bag as a defence by catching the ball behind the bag so the runner can't slide into you, or you can learn how to catch the ball crossing the bag and then kind of creating a different angle, so again the runner can't take you out. So there's big responsibilities. Get there, have a good target and then really learn how to get the ball out of your hands without getting taken out by the runner.
