You get sent off either with a yellow card, where you get sent off for ten minutes, or receiving a red card, which is a permanent sending off, where the player will play no further part in the game. That would have to be either a player receiving a second yellow card, or a an offense serious enough that the referee deems the player to take no further participation in the match whatsoever, such as a punch, a fight, or illegal use of the boot. One of those things would end your day as a player.
