What is a 'pinch runner' in baseball?
Alan Jaeger (Pitching Coach / Founder) gives expert video advice on: What is a 'base runner' in baseball?; What do I do after I hit a fair ball?; After I hit a fair ball how should I judge how many bases I can take? and more...
A pinch runner in baseball is simply a player that comes from off the bench, who's not in the game, who comes out and runs on the bases for a player that's in the game. Usually it happens because the pinch runner is the fastest runner in the dugout that's not currently in the game and is usually running for a player that's not a very fast runner.
