What is a 'rundown' in baseball?
Alan Jaeger (Pitching Coach / Founder) gives expert video advice on: What is a 'base runner' in baseball?; What do I do after I hit a fair ball?; After I hit a fair ball how should I judge how many bases I can take? and more...
A rundown in baseball, which is also known as a pickle, is anytime you have a base runner who's between one of the two bases, and then you have a defender on either side of him, and they're trying to chase you and get you out. And usually what happens is they throw the ball to one defender, and then the base runner runs the other way, and at some point, they try to get it closer and closer to where one of the defenders can tag you out.
