I don't think that there are any extra security risks involved in selling your house privately. It just means that you have to be extra cautious. In fact, estate agents don't do an awful lot of vetting of the people that they bring around to see your house. But if you feel uncomfortable when somebody rings you and asks to come and see your house, if anything makes you feel uncomfortable about them, just say that no, you're not available that day or the house is already under offer. Just kind of politely turn them away if you feel in any way anxious.
