What is a 'straight-leg slide' in baseball?
A straight-leg slide is when you have one leg extended straight out. It really doesn't matter if it's your right leg or left leg, if your right leg is straight up and your left leg is really bent underneath it. The idea is that you have some guidance toward the bag. By using the one foot, it helps you to be gauged toward where you want to go on the bag. The foot underneath it, the idea to that is that it drags the dirt and slows you down. Therefore, by also coming in with one leg straight and the other leg bent, it positions you with the power you've come in from the slide itself, to pop up so that you can use your bent leg to brace and kick you up in the air, which allows you to move onto the next base as efficiently as possible.
