What are some of the drawbacks to solar power?

Dan Sharp (Green Family Expert) gives expert video advice on: Can I install solar panels myself?; Is it easy to repair damaged or missing solar panels? and more...

Some drawbacks to solar power are mainly the initial startup costs which can be pretty high. You know it might be a drawback but it might be a benefit, because you are effectively buying your power for the next thirty years or so. But it is still tough to come up with a big chunk of money to invest in solar panels. Weather is a huge factor when deciding whether or not to go with solar. If you live in a really cloudy climate or if you are in an area that is far away from the Equator, your solar panels are going to be less efficient. It is not that it can't be done, but you should definitely check with a solar power provider or an installer to decide if that is appropriate for your community where you live.
