How should I choose my first organizational project?
When you're a professional organizer, it's very easy to come into a space and say, okay, here's what we're going to do for this entire room, or this entire house. If you're doing this on your own, and especially if this is a process that you're not completely comfortable with, it's very important to start very small. Start small. Pick a drawer. Anything. Anything that you feel comfortable tackling. If it's your bathroom, pick your makeup drawer. Pick your medicine cabinet. Something that is small. Take it apart. Get rid of what you don't need. Put it back together. The sense of accomplishment that you feel from doing that, and the sense of pride, does so many things for you. First of all, it organizes something. Also, it makes you feel good. It makes you feel inspired to keep doing it, and keep going on in the process. It's a building block. Having an organized home or an organized office or environment is really about building these pieces that sit on top of one another. Before you know it, the entire space is functioning all together. It's important to start small, and build up.
