Why was it also called Roshambeau?

Jason Simmons (Rock Paper Scissors Champion) gives expert video advice on: What are the origins of Rock Paper Scissors (RPS)?; Why was it also called Roshambeau?; How is American Rock Paper Scissors different from Janken or other international versions of the game? and more...

That's another interesting question. A lot of people, at the United States Association for Rock Paper Scissors (USARPS) League specifically, point back to comte de Rochambeau, who led the French Expeditionary Forces in the American Revolutionary War, and although his name was Rochambeau, there is no real strong tie linking him with the game. You don't see statues of him holding the scissors out, or anything like that. So, again, that's another element of the sport shrouded in the mysteries of time; the world may never know, but there is a tie there, and if we knew more about that, we'd know a lot more about ourselves.
