What are some myths about the CIA?
The primary myth associated with the CIA, is that it is a kind of omnipotent and all-knowing organization, and in reality when you work there you start to realize that it is a bit of a bumbling bureaucracy. Another myth about the CIA is that CIA officers are routinely involved in assassinations. That is usually the first question I get asked is “Did you have to kill anyone?” And most CIA officers are not involved with assassinations. So that is another typical myth about the CIA. And the last overriding myth about the agency is that the agency spies on Americans. Usually when people found out that I worked at the CIA, they were very sceptical of me and suspicious, and thought that I might be spying on them. When in fact, the CIA is expressly prohibited from spying on Americans.
