If you have curly hair, you can probably get away without washing your hair as often as somebody say with fine, thin hair. Generally, the hair shaft will absorb some of the natural oils. But then again, everyone is an individual. Some people produce more oil, some less. If you notice your hair is getting a little greasy at the roots, that's the sign that it's time to shampoo. It's always good to not over shampoo your hair. It takes the conditioning out of it. It tends to dry it a little bit more. I would say generally every second day would be a good idea.
