What is a "car navigation system"?
James Bell (Publisher, Auto Reviewer) gives expert video advice on: What is the difference between "options" and "accessories"?; Do I need to subscribe to car navigation systems? and more...
A car navigation system is a little screen quite often in the center of the dashboard on a lot of vehicles these days that has a DVD system which provides updated location and mapping information so you can identify where you are in a particular area. And how it does this is with GPS software which uses satellites in orbit to help triangulate or identify where you are in a given area on land. One of the key factors when looking to buy a vehicle that has a navigation system built in is it's user interface. How easy is it to actually plug in the destination you're looking for, the address that you're looking for, or the information that you need. Some of them are very technical and provide great results, but you may find that it is difficult to plug your destination or location information in. One way around that is many new systems which provide voice activated input, so you actually push a button and say "123 Oak Street" and it will find that location for you automatically.
