Welcome to acupressure for beginners. If you look at acupressure, it has a very long history, mostly coming from tui na which were originally called anmo anma and that goes back to many thousands of years. It doesn't actually have a recorded point to which it started.
They have found bone fragments in which the names are particular tui na techniques, have been engraved on back to two and a half thousand BC. Acupressure and tui na have evolved over these thousands of years to form many different schools and varieties. One of the big influences is one of the four great masters, who founded the school of attacking and purging.
It was his belief when you have a strong exterior and you can purge release any kind of energy to his own exterior and anything that's lurking inside will come out as well. These have also gone on to influence a lot of the martial traditions. So, a lot of the kung fu and karate, and various other Chinese and Japanese martial arts, have evolved their own form of body work, which can be attributed to anmo anma, tui na, acupressure.
Acupressure has a wide variety of effect on the body. Just like acupuncture, you can use to treat almost any condition. It, of course, has specialities that you like to work with such as muscle conditions, neuropathy, neurological conditions, external pathogenic factors such as colds and flu.
It can also be treated very effectively. Dermatology simply works with using external treatments from acupressure. The effects of tui na and acupressure are very strong and, of course, need to work with a form of diagnosis.
So, the red flags you are to watch for are pregnancy, the elderly, and children.
