A Guide To Beauty Careers

Hi, I'm Liz Fuller. I'm the new boss at Miss Great Britain, and a previous winner from 1997, and for the last thirteen years I've been working as a TV presenter and producer at I TV and channel five. Today, though, I'm going to be giving you advice on the beauty pageant world.

A guide to beauty careers. Okay, once you've done a beauty pageant and Miss Great Britain, you will have made a lot of contacts, especially out on final. So what happens next? Okay, being a beauty queen means that you can now go into a lot of different careers.

And the other thing is, lots of door will open for you, because when you approach people and put that you're an ex-Miss Great Britain finalist, or hopefully Miss Great Britain, on your CV, people are curious about you. And you will get those auditions, you will get those meetings probably more than the average person. So sometimes beauty does help, right? So, what kind of careers would you want to go into? Lots of beauty queens that I've met over the last fourteen years have gone into PR, and that's because you learn very quickly at a beauty pageant how to deal with newspapers, journalists, and of course it's that media platform.

So, you may be interviewed on the red carpet at the final Miss Great Britain, and you tend to network, but you also work out quickly what are good answers and what aren't. So, lots of you may go into PR, because you know how to talk to the press, but there are other careers that you can do. Lots of you may want to go into show business and Miss Great Britain and beauty pageants tend to be a direct springboard for that.

Out of the last few years, most of the girls tend to have tried and entered a career either as a TV presenter, an actress, a singer, a model, and it does tend to help you, because you're going to be able to get extra publicity, and you probably will have started gathering a following and a fan base anyway of people that may have followed you when you were Miss Glasgow or Miss Swansea. So, think about it and use your title to push yourself forwards in these careers. Now, other careers that you can go into, obviously you can go into other things.

I wouldn't say being a beauty queen helps anything in the legal world, although it does kind of help you in how you dress, how you hold yourself, and of course coming across in interview techniques it does help. So, beauty careers after Miss Great Britain, there's lots of things you can go into. But a direct link: it would be PR, it would be obviously anything to do in the beauty world, but then of course it would be show business.
