You have to have the right type of make up whether you are old or young to make you look Burlesque. Enlarge You have to have the right type of make up whether you are old or young to make you look Burlesque.

This is a guide to burlesque make up. The first part I'm going to tell you about is vintage make-up, 1940s, 1950s style. The girls generally use a cream, followed by a powder for their eyebrows such as this, goes on with the brush, one bit defines the eyebrow, the next bit the powder, softens it up.

Then generally, once they've put on their foundation, covered by lots of powder to keep the look matte, then they'll go for something quite dusky and foxy darker eye shadows, usually greys, very often browns. A lot of younger women also prefer highlighter. It really, really highlights the whole area of the eye underneath the brow and above the lid.

Great if you're quite young, not good if you've got very deep set eyes or very small eyes because it can draw attention to it. Black eyeliner, this is an eyeliner that's really easy to use. It's a liquid eyeliner, very little brush so it's easy to control, again, fantastic if you've got quite big eyes.

If you've got small eyes, you can still use it but I would advice using a white pencil on the inside of your lid because that will open up the eye and then the black eyeliner doesn't make your eyes look so small. I prefer a tinted moisturizer to foundation. I don't tend to use powder.

I find I've got very sensitive skin so I don't really like it very much. And then I go for things like this. You can get creams, eye shadow creams and you put the cream on first and then you cover the cream with the sparkle.

What happens there is it makes the sparkle stick to your eyes so it looks really effective without too much effort. Then, what I normally do is I go for something that's still an eyeliner but it's a colour and it's glittery. Eyebrows, I use eyebrow pencil but my eyebrow pencil has a brush on it which again feathers out the eyebrow.

Lots of mascara, you can never have too much mascara. False eyelashes, lots of people use the glue that comes with nearly every pair you buy but there is something called jiro that a lot of girls really, really swear by. There are also very plain eyelashes and there are glitzy ones.

I go for the glitzy ones myself. Red lipstick, every girl should have a red lipstick whether she's a Burlesque girl or not. So, red lipstick, really handy to have a lip pencil, good idea to outline your lips and then fill in.

You can actually add glitter. You can buy some very fine glitter, you can put the lipstick on and then put glitter on top and that's a real burlesque look. Don't use gloss if you're going to use feather bowers, it will get stuck in your lips.

Not a good look. Finally, I would say get yourself some body glitter for your hair and for your body. You can have spray.

If you have a problem with sprays, there's roll-on, well, there's even brush on. Yes, I own everything that glitters. I hope you've really enjoyed my brief but, I hope, concise guide to burlesque make-up. .
