My name is Michelle Bassam. I am a counselling psychologist and also the clinical manager for Harley Therapy. Today, I'm here to talk to you about different aspects of therapy and how therapy can help you as individuals or as couples.
This is a short introduction to counselling and therapy. Counselling and therapy are when two people, or a couple and a therapist, engage in an agreement to actually work through presenting issues. You will be able to discuss your issues with your therapist in a confidential, safe environment.
For you, it is important to actually stop and think the type of therapy that you wish to actually take part in. Therapy comes in many different ways. Basically, we could be looking at long term therapy, psychodynamic or cognitive behavioral therapy, individual therapy or possibly couples, depending on the issues.
Research heavily, into the type of therapy and the type of therapist that is actually right for you. Maybe you need to speak to your GP, or maybe you need to look on certain therapy websites. Look at testimonials, look at the write-ups, look at the type of qualifications and the actual boards that these people belong to.
The organizations are very important as well so that they are truly recognized therapists, so you will be able to do some very good therapeutic work.
