Hi! My name is Aliza from Seams So Easy, www.seamsoeasy.com.
I have been sewing for fifteen years and today I am going to show you some stitches. Today, I am going to show you the different types of materials used in cross stitch and there are counted cross stitches, and you find that there are holes, definite holes where the needle has to go in, these coming in different sizes. This one is a counted cross stitch number six.
The material is called Aida number six and this is number nine. So you can see how the difference in the two sizes of the holes. This one is number fourteen.
That means that there are fourteen squares to one inch whereas this will have six and this will have nine. Now, cross stitch can also be done on what is called even kneel, which is this. Here, there is no hole but you have to be counting the stitches and it's normally your cross stitch over two threads.
Normally on the finer cross stitch material like the Aida fourteen, the Aida sixteen and so on and on the even kneel, they use skinned thread like that and normally it is two strands of skin threads over one hole. In the larger one, we can use wool or thicker threads when you are doing cross stitch, the needle that you have to use is called Tapersco needle. Tapersco needle usually have blank edge and they come in various sizes, smaller ones for the smaller fabric and the bigger ones for the bigger holes.
The bigger one should be able to thread the wool if you are using wool. But sometimes, you can use ordinary needles as well but I wouldn't recommend that. If you push for needles, you can always use the ordinary ones.
Thats it. .
