This guide to drip coffee details how to choose the right equipment for preparing drip coffee. It also discusses the methods for preparation to ensure a cup of coffee suited to your taste.
We're going to talk about how to make drip coffee. Now, drip coffee's very simple. It's exactly that.
We're going to pour water through coffee grounds which are in a filter and they're going to go through into our cup at the bottom, and that's going to produce our coffee for us. Now for this, I'm using a specially designed mug, or a cup, and this has got in the bottom there, as you can see, three holes. And this is an angled cup which fits the filter paper on it.
Now, you can pick up these in quite a lot of independent coffee retailers or in coffee supply stores. You can also get similar ones as well. There are wire mesh baskets that look a little bit like nets and they all do the same job.
Some of them require filter papers which you can get additionally for them. Or some, if it's the wire mesh basket, you don't need that at all. You just put the coffee straight into the bottom.
You don't want to be making a huge mug of coffee using this method because it drips, because the water's dripping through the coffee, through filter paper, and down into the bottom. If you're extracting a large mug, it's taking quite a long time. By the time the last water's going through the coffee grounds that have already had water going through them, you start to extract a more bitter coffee.
So I'd recommend using smaller amounts and coming and back and doing the process again if you want another coffee or a larger coffee. And I find that you get a much more rounded coffee from that. I think it's definitely important to get the best flavour for you.
So experiment with your coffee beans and your coffee grind and make sure that you've got a coffee that you like. There are no hard and fast rules. It's about what you enjoy and it's your coffee. .
