A Guide To Neck Pain Management
The management of neck pain could either be for the short or long term. Here is an overview of the available solutions to your pain.
When we get to the management of neck pain, we have to understand that they are treatment and management that will give you short-term pain relief. But for me, the goal is to have a permanent change and give you a long-term solution to your pain. And so how to manage it, if you go the GP, they will give you drugs.
Usually, it's Paracetamol and sometimes, a muscle relaxant like diazepam. It could also be a stronger one like Amitriptyline, but the main one they give us is Paracetamol which can control the pain but there's always a reason why that pain started in the neck. So when people come here, it's really important for me to understand their work environment, how they sit, how they stand, because bad posture, like I said, is a very big cause of neck pain.
So to manage it, we have to correct the posture. If a person is sitting and working like this everyday, we have to make sure you're sitting upright with the head on top of the shoulders, for example. Then there are treatments available.
Physiotherapy, osteopathy, chiropractic are three examples that treat and manage neck pain. Ideally, I would always choose a good physiotherapist for the reason that they really focus on rehabilitation and like I said, you can get other treatments that give you short-term pain relief but it is vital that when you manage neck pain and to bring permanent changes that let you strengthen the weak muscles and you stretch the tight muscles and you teach people how to stand, how to sit, how to walk and give them a live application and lifestyle changes that can help them with the management. .
