A Guide To Sunless Tanning

Hi. My name is Abigail Oleck and I'm the founder of Beaubronz and Spray Tanner to the Stars. And I'm going to share with you my top tanning tips.

So now I'm going to talk to you about sunless tanning. What does sunless tanning mean? Well, sunless tanning is tanning without the sun. So you've got many variations of that.

You've got your fake tans that you can use at home, which are very, very good now. There are a lot of great brands out on the market. And you've also got your spray tans.

So when you are thinking about having a sunless tan, let's first of all talk about spray tanning. Now you've got two types of equipment. You've got compressors which are with a handheld airbrush, and then you've also got HVLP machines which blast out the solution a bit more strongly.

Now, we have got some other videos on those, so do take a look at those if you don't know what the difference is between a compressor and an HVLP. But when you are searching for your salon, that's what you want to know first of all. You want to find your spray tanning salon on Google; you want to make sure that the company knows the brand that they're using, that they know the percentage of DHA that they're using; and you also want to work out, are they using a compressor or are they using a HVLP? And as I said, you can look at some of our other videos to find out which equipment would suit you best.

Then when you've found your salon, you know they know the brand, you know they know the percentage of DHA. I want you to have a little think about DHA for a moment, on what your skin type is. If you're very fair skinned, if you're our English rose complexions, natural red heads, natural blondes, I want you to think about using an 8 - 9 % DHA product in salon and a 4% with retail.

If you're darker skinned complexion, you can use up to a 10 1/2% DHA in salon but keep it at around an 8 - 9 with retail because these are professional strength products. So when you've found your sunless spray tanning shop, the things to remember are that basically you're going to be sprayed in your underwear or without any clothes on. Make sure that you take loose fitting dark clothing.

You don't want to be wearing your Bethann white silk blouse because most DHA products do contain cosmetic color and you wouldn't want that to come off on your clothes. So wear like a loose fitting black dress or dark purple, dark green, dark brown, something like that, or tracky bottoms and a t-shirt. That's the sort of attire that you want to take with you to your spray tanning shop.

After your spray tan, make sure for 8 hours that you don't wash your hands, you don't bathe and you don't shower, because DHA, that's your self-tanning agent, will take 8 hours to develop. So any water splashes or washing of the arms, hands is going to not allow that product to develop fully. So make sure you don't wash your hands for 8 hours. .
