Jessica Knight, professional tap dancer, gives tip-top tap advice. A quick guide to common tap dancing steps, it covers the shuffle, a shuffle with an accent, a spring similar to a jog, a tap spring, a tap spring toe-hop, and then links them all together.
This is a quick guide to tap dancing steps. First, I'm going to teach you the shuffle. So, you brush forwards and back.
A little bit quicker. Shuffle. Shuffle.
Shuffle. You can do this with the left leg, too. Shuffle.
Shuffle. I'm going to stand on the side so you can see. Forwards and back.
Forwards and back. You can also do it a little bit faster, with an accent. Shuffle.
Shuffle. Shuffle. Shuffle.
And on the left, shuffle, shuffle, shuffle, shuffle and that's a shuffle. I'm now going to teach you a spring, a tap spring, and a tap-spring-toe-hop, and then link them all together. So, make sure your weight is forward, and your knees are slightly bent.
A spring is similar to a jog, with your heels slightly off the ground. Spring two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. I'm now going to show you how to do a tap spring.
You do this by making a small tap with your foot and then springing onto the foot. Tap and spring. Tap and spring.
Tap and spring. A little faster, tap-spring - tap-spring. I'm now going to show you how to do a tap-spring toe-hop, so the tap spring as we've just done.
