This VideoJug film aims to explain telephone counselling and informs the viewer of basic aspects of telephone counselling and how it is important.
My name is Michelle Bassam. I am a counselling psychologist and also the clinical manager for Harley Therapy. Today, I'm here to talk to you about different aspects of therapy and how therapy can help you as individuals or as couples.
Today, I'm going to explain to you a little bit about telephone therapy. Telephone therapy can be very, very useful in today's busy world. Many people travel abroad for work, they are busy at home, and are not able to commit themselves to coming to a location for their therapy each week.
Saying that, it is still important that you put time aside each week for your therapy, for the telephone call to take place in a very quite, calm environment where you feel safe that you will not be heard by others or disturbed by others during your call. Most therapy calls last for a fifty minute session as do face to face calls. It is important that we find someone, who, even though you are only speaking to on the phone, you are able to have a good chemistry with and you can feel that the therapist is concentrating fully on what you are discussing.
To find a good therapist, it is important that you go through the usual channels of searching the internet, speaking to your GP, or even friends or family, so basically we are mainly looking at recommendation. The therapist will be qualified to deal with face to face issues and not just qualified to deal with telephone work. I hope this can be of some help in respect to telephone counselling.
Thank you. .
