An Introduction To Japanese Paradise Gardens
An Introduction To Japanese Paradise Gardens. Minimal in colour, but rich in foliage and water, the Japanese Paradise garden embraces the elements and creates a relaxing environment for quiet contemplation. There is no need to hire any garden designers after following VideoJug's advice.

Every Paradise Garden should have an arching, steep bridge. This garden is high maintenance. You'll have to prune and thin out on a regular basis. It is a garden for the enthusiast. It's a world in miniature. You've got rock areas and the bridge here which is a striking focal point to the garden. Great plants include this Japanese Acer and conifers and the water in the west, which is the setting point for the garden, set off by this wonderful storm lantern.

In the West we look over this still pond, constructed from a butyl liner overlaid with pebbles, and the edge set off with cobbles so you can walk around it. It's only two feet deep, which is all you need for these floating lilies, but you do have to watch out for algae. All good garden and aquatic centres will give you tips for putting together your own pond like this. This is probably the most important garden to look at if you were wanting to put a Japanese garden into your own space.

Paradise Gardens have great structure. This bamboo is evergreen and creates great sound as the wind passes through it. It does shed some leaves, but you can rake those off. Be careful not to pick a bamboo that gets too invasive. We've also got this Weeping Larch, used in Japanese and Chinese gardens. It's not evergreen but it gives a nice yellow colour in the autumn. One of the best plants to have is the Japanese Acer. It's very broad and has excellent colour in the Autumn and Winter. Every garden that's based on the Paradise concept must have these key plants.

You can also use a lot of grasses in a Paradise Garden. This is often called Zebra Grass and it adds great height to a border. Don't cut it down until February or March, but you get good architectural foliage for the rest of the year. This is another key plant that you should have.
