Authentic Venetian Plaster Seminar
This is an explanation about Authentic Italian Venetian Plasters. Learn some of their characteristics and application techniques. We're having fun sharing this information with all those interested in natural lime based plasters.
Step 1: Authentic venetian plaster seminar:
There's actually like three marmos. One is a fine, one is a medio, and one is big, depending on the size of the aggregate, the granulometry of the aggregate. So the finest aggregate in there is the marmo fine. The bigger aggregate is marmo big, and there's a medio which is a medium size. But having said that it's good for exterior. It's got a lot of grain to it. And you could use it for color washings. You can use it for things like a trapper tee look. This is basically dragged out texture going up and down, diagonal, left to right, which ever way you prefer. Normally with a color wash on top.
Step 2: What is Corallo?
Corallo is a product that was made to kind of emulate what the Italians call coccio pesto. ...made up of crushed red bricks... What they would do is they would take in their last coat. They would add brick powder into their material and it would give a color to the lime. It would also, by its nature, make the lime kind of hydraulic. And so it's a real nice finish and it has like little red spots in. There is actually another one called ebano. And it's a powder that's made to emulate the pozzolana. Pozzolana they would take from their volcanoes. They would have these ashes, and these ashes were called pozzolana and they would add that to their lime. And that would make their lime hydraulic, simply because of the properties of the pozzolana. And what we've done is we take a powder. We add it to our medio, and it makes this finish called ebano which kind of looks like coralo, but it's more of a grayish tint.
Step 3: What is Teodorico?
Teodorico is an interesting finish. It contains gold, silver, copper, and bronze flakes. A heavy aggregate. It can finish smooth, but it's made to look more like a stone with some very vivid colors.
