-
Learn some practices to improve on the basic back stroke.
-
Step 1:
-
Legs
-
The practice help the kicking technique by improving the glide and accuracy. Start by pushing off from the side on your back and kicking from the hips down. Keep your face skyward and your arms outstretched above your head. Next, using a float, hold it close to your body as you practise kicking. Remember to keep your body as streamlined as possible.
-
Step 2:
-
Arms
-
To practise your arm technique, hold a float to your stomach with one hand. Then use the other hand to practise arm pulls. To boost your speed try bending your arm at the elbow as you draw your arm under and back up to the surface. Keep your arm as close to your side as possible. As your hand lifts out of the water your palm should face your thigh. Practise with both arms.
-
Step 3:
-
Breathing
-
You can use the same practise in step two to practise your breathing. Breathe in through your mouth as your first arm gets ready to start the cycle, breathe out as the arm finishes the underwater action.
