Footwork is the most testing thing in boxing. It is essential that you can move your feet, otherwise you risk taking a lot of blows which will quickly become difficult to take.

A basic foot work drill involves drawing an imaginary line through the body, or perhaps putting some black tape on the floor. Once you have your line, come forward by driving from the back foot. Follow this by driving back again with the front foot. Now step off line to the right leading with the right foot, and then repeat to the left. You should always be moving at 45 degree angles.

These foot work techniques will help you to get into your opponent, give them a few taps, score some points, and then get out again without getting hit.

As an instructional video it's not much good at all. First of all, the coach says that if you're moving to the left move the left foot first, moving right, rt. foot first, moving foreward front foot first etc which is correct, but then shows his boxer moving rearward with his front foot first etc. An experienced boxer knows what was going on but for someone wanting to learn basic footwork this looks contradictory and confusing. Also, the boxer was moving too fast for an instructional video, doing the "Ali Shuffle" etc. with his hands down around his shoulders. This isn't boxing, or an instructional video, it's just putting on a show.

I'd really like to see some videos on defence - duck, weave, slip, block and more. Also counter-attacks openings from defending an attack and generally how to open someone up for an attack. Thanks!
